We are maui strong
A message from Melissa Rajesh, President:
The immediate aftermath of the Maui wildfires has been devastating. Families have lost their homes, livelihood and loved ones. The long term effects have yet to be seen as we try to rebuild and return to some sort of normalcy.
As parents, we feel the pressure to do what is best for our kids, to keep them safe and let them know everything is going to be okay. Compound that with our own emotions of grief, helplessness and anger, it can be all too overwhelming.
As a child, they may feel confused not quite comprehending what is happening, not understanding why a parent is angry, worried, or distracted by the events around us. Even though we shelter them from these things, they do feel something is not quite right with the world around them.
Children do not have the capacity to communicate their emotions as adults do. They may not understand why they are feeling a certain way and they may not have the words to describe how they are feeling. This is why you’ll see a child have a temper tantrum, laugh uncontrollable, dance and move their body for no particular reason.
During times like this it, it is vital to provide our keiki with an outlet to express their emotions, move their bodies, and give them a sense of normalcy.
This is where Maui Tumblers can help. We are working with schools, organizations like YMCA and Project: Camp, to provide free gymnastics and ninja classes to as many kids as possible. Every child has been effected by the Maui Fires, every child needs a healthy outlet to move, play, laugh and be a kid.
If you would like to donate to Maui Tumblers to make this mission possible, please donate here. Your donation can name a specific child you know is in need, a school or shelter you hold near to your heart, or let us know you just want to help every child out there. Every donation, big or small helps the cause.
Mahalo for your kokua.
